Abstract
Thorough analysis and interpretation of the results of reservoir simulations is an important step in evaluating oil fields. Interpreting the hundreds of thousands of lines of computer output from each simulation run is very time consuming and impractical. The interpretation of conventional 2D areal and cross-sectional maps was an improvement upon the original method of reviewing the numerous lines of output, but it has limitations too.
The ability to transform the vast amounts of simulation results into easily understood 3D images helps in our data checking and understanding of reservoir processes.
This paper describes the use of a state-of-the art and "off- the-shelf" 3D visualization software in BPX reservoir simulation studies, as exemplified by three Kuparuk River Unit models.
