A kick simulator has been developed for use on a work station with Unix operating system and X Window System installed. Advanced mathematical models are used to calculate the development of gas kicks and oil kicks in water based and oil based drilling muds. In the preprocessor the user sets up the input data in an environment with help functions and default values. When the simulator is running, the user can observe a number of selected surface and downhole kick parameters vs. time and space plotted graphically on the screen. In the postprocessor the user can display different physical parameters vs. time and space on the screen and make hard copies of them.
