This paper describes an overview of the development of a comprehensive black oil reservoir simulator (PC-GEM). Design goals implemented, including efficient memory and data management, fast computing speed, user friendliness, and extensive reservoir engineering features are discussed.

PC-GEM simulation results are obtained for two previously published reservoir problems. Computing speeds on different microcomputer systems and a minicomputer are compared for the SPE three-dimensional gas injection problem.
