Public domain and inexpensive software can be used as a teaching tool in petroleum engineering to enhance the student's capabilities, as well as prepare him for more advanced and sophisticated applications in the workplace. This paper will describe a "toolbox" of applicable software, totalling less than $75, including the disk media. With this "toolbox" the student can become familiar with software for database management, spreadsheet calculations, word processing, graphics and a compiled Pascal language with a built-in editor.
