FORTRAN and BASIC may not be the microcomputer languages of choice for many engineering applications. We have developed a complete suite of engineering programs using Turbo Pascal and have found the new language provides superior benefits for the user, programmer and software manager. The applications range from user-friendly input screens to complex calculations, from memory-resident utilities to sophisticated database managers, from real-time simulations to artificial intelligence, from high-quality graphics to laboratory data acquisition. In this paper, we describe these developments and show how Turbo Pascal and its extensions can form the core of a very powerful and cost-effective software system.
