This paper describes the design of the miscible CO2 flood on the Sundown Slaughter Unit. The 8,700 acre unit was a mature waterflood in the San Andres formation surrounded by seven active CO2 floods. CO2 injection commenced on the Unit in January of 1994. The project benefited from the available technology on CO2 flooding and particularly information on other CO2 projects in the Slaughter field. The paper summarizes methods used in the geologic description, reservoir characterization, pattern selection, CO2 flood predictions, and field preparation. The CO2 injection plan and actual performance to date are also presented.
