This paper discusses several subjects with respect to the burial of pipelines and transmission lines in particular and the design and construction of bottom and scour protections for offshore structures in general.

Possible incidents with pipeline and cables during installation, burying, testing and operation are discussed as well as the environmental impact of these incidents and of burial operations. Alternative methods of protection cq. stabilization of pipelines, cables and offshore structures, using specially designed stone-dumping vessels and mattress-sinking techniques are presented.
