Hydraulic fracturing has been used extensively for well stimulation in the Hugoton gas field since the 1960's. Through continuous improvement efforts, and a renewed importance placed on quality data collection, stimulation costs have been significantly reduced since 1991 by pumping smaller single stage fracture treatments without sacrificing gas production. Better control of fracture growth has lead to initial savings in capital investments as well as improving ultimate gas recovery.
