A mechanistic model has been developed for the prediction of pressure gradients in pumping wells. The proposed model takes into consideration recent developments in two-phase flow through an annulus configuration, is based on the concept of zero net liquid flow, and rigorously incorporates the important flow and system parameters.

A detailed sensitivity analysis was carried out for a typical pumping well case. The effect of the system and flow parameters on the bottomhole pressure is demonstrated. More accurate results can be obtained by this model, as compared to previously published methods, due to the rigorous analysis used in the model development.
