Abstract
The wavelet transform has the ability to preserve local structures in spatial data sets. This paper presents a technique by which wavelet transform is used to upscale the fine scale permeability values in 2 and 3 dimensions. The method is easy to implement and very efficient. Although not based on preserving the physics of the flow process, it is able to capture the flow processes in both 2 and 3 dimensions. Further, the method also compares favorably with other upscaling techniques.
