ABSTRACT
The paper discusses the context and factors which influenced the development of North Sea Independents, arguing that successful strategies combined exploration and corporate activity within a unifying business vision. The competitive pressures of the 1990's are leading Independents into global competition, demanding adjustments to strategy. Emphasis upon the competitive advantages of Independents and rigorous attention to "customer-values is advocated for success in the new decade.
