Abstract
The UK oil and gas sector is becoming mature at a time of reduced oil prices and higher costs. Cost reductions coinciding with an increase in serious injuries require a new approach to health and safety.
The traditional anti union focus of the industry is now changing giving the Trade Unions an opportunity of working in partnership with oil companies and contractors to maintain an efficient and profitable industry whilst securing high standards of safety and employment conditions. The inclusion of Trade Union Safety Representatives will benefit the improvements needed.
