The Electromagnetic Propagation Tool (EPT) remains unloved by many in the North Sea oil industry due to concerns over tool performance, log interpretation and value for money. While acknowledging its limitations, this paper sets out to show that, given the right circumstances, the EPT can provide information unavailable from any other electric logging device, especially in wells drilled with OBM. Examples of EPT applications are given for several reservoirs in the North Sea, each bearing different hydrocarbon phases.
