ABSTRACT
This paper presents work conducted on borehole stability of consolidated and unconsolidated sandstone formations. A simplified stress equation, developed for work in mine tunnels in soft sedimentary rocks, which has been modified for the case of petroleum reservoir rocks is presented. A method of determining failure criteria from limited unconsolidated samples is presented, and the results used to predict the extent of a failed zone in an unconsolidated formation for various mud weights.
