A program has been developed for the prediction of sulfate scale formation in single waters or mixtures. The program considers the effect of pressure, temperature, and brine composition using classical thermodynamics and modem electrolyte theory. The important effect of [MgS04°] ion pairing is considered explicitly. All possible sulfate scales are considered simultaneously. This is a far sounder theoretical approach than the sequential approach used previously.
