The Amukpe field operated by Seplat Petroleum Development Company was discovered in 1970 by the exploration well Amukpe 1. The field is located within OML 38 and lies about 40km NNW of Warri in the greater Ugheli Depobelt within the same microstructure as the Sapele Field, in Nigeria. A total of 3 wells have been drilled in this field; Amukpel, Amukpe 2 and Amukpe 3.

Seplat Petroleum generally classifies its oil fields into Amukpe, Sapele and Oben fields, on which workover and drilling activities have been executed.

The operator had challenge of how to dispose the over 30,000bbl of produced water from oil wells. Amukpe 2 oil well was then being proposed for workover and conversion to a water disposal well. The old completion string was successfully recovered and the old perforation squeezed off.

The paper is focus on how the operator successfully convert Amukpe 2, an oil well to a water disposal well through a record achieved cased hole section milling and, under-reaming operation within budget and time.
