Umm Shaif is a field where the oil bearing zone is trapped between a massive gas cap at the crest and a peripheral aquifer supported by peripheral water injectors. In this field, pressure build up surveys managed to distinguish between gas and water fronts and to determine the distance to either of these fronts long before the fronts reach the wellbore. The gas front behaved as a constant pressure boundary, while water acted as a pressure support boundary.
