In a well log evaluation of a field study, normalization of porosity logs is often necessary to get reliable results. The effect of heavy minerals should be accounted for in calculating porosity from density logs realistically. Porosity variation is mainly dependent on shaliness. The bulk volume water concept is useful in delineating zones of irreducible saturation and transition zones. For a particular rock group, water saturation is related to the resistivity by a simple hyperbolic function. The TDT log may be used in monitoring water movement and water fingering. Analog plots of results of quantitative log interpretation are useful in stratigraphic subdivision and correlation.
