Saudi Aramco is committed to environment protection and minimizing its environmental footprint. The company environmental protection policy states: "The Company will sure that its operations do not create undue risks to the environment or public health, and will conduct its operations with full concern for the protection of the land, air and water from harmful pollution. The Company will promote environmentally sound waste disposal practices and cost effective waste minimization through source reduction, reuse, and recycling". Saudi Aramco introduced ambient air quality monitoring to Saudi Aramco since the early 1970's. This process was automated and improved as the technology advanced in that field. Many advanced technologies are used to measure or control the level of air pollutants emitted to the atmosphere from Saudi Aramco's industrial facilities. This paper explains the efforts towards eliminating any footprint on air quality by achieving zero hydrocarbon discharge during necessary flow back operations. It describes the evaluation of several alternatives while utilizing phase separators, sand filters, cyclones, surge tanks, high-pressure and low-pressure pumps/compressors to come up with a feasible, reliable and safe discharge system.
