Production process in LNG plants are often subject to frequent disturbances, typically due to variations in feed conditions, changes in the air ambient and cooling water temperature, outage and deterioration of equipment performance. Therefore, it has been a very challenging task to maintain sound, accurate and stable control performance over a wide range of conditions to ensure all plant units operate reliably and at maximum efficiency, and production losses due to unplanned shutdowns are minimised.

This paper describes how the control loop performance management is implemented at ADGAS LNG plants to continuously monitor and improve control loop performance which has resulted in a significant reduction of flaring and lost production.
