Abstract
The driller, or well execution engineer, as some call it, is now responsible for a bigger part of the overall drilling process as automation and mechanization on rigs increases and the market moves toward performance-based, as opposed to day-rate, contracts. More information must now be absorbed and analyzed; hence, the driller is more important for safe and efficient drilling processes. Due to this, it is more critical than ever to ensure that the well execution engineer has an optimal working environment. This paper outlines several new technologies to help ensure that the working environment and process is more streamlined and comfortable.
Several innovations in the driller's control room (DCR) are outlined, such as new window and display technology, as well as new sophisticated communication systems.
Additionally, new drilling software is developed to ensure constantly high performance through autopiloting.
Overall, these new products improve the working environment and overall efficiency, which also results in more cost-effective well construction and safer operations for the rig crew.
