ABSTRACT
Environmental site assessments are a valuable tool in assessing the profitability of oil properties with enhanced oil recovery (EOR) opportunities. Industry and government should view the liabilities identified in the environmental site assessment process as research and development opportunities for product development and successful total resource management. The costs to permit, construct, and operate EOR projects within the framework of today's environmental regulations are quantifiable, predictable, and controllable to a certain degree. Knowledge of oil field operations and typical problem areas with the goal of total resource management evaluated in a creative way will help to extend the economic life of the EOR project.
