Abstract

Recording VSP data on wireline is a routine operation and its benefits and short comings are well understood. Recording a similar dataset while drilling allowing Real Time processing of the Seismic traces has several potential advantages in terms of time saving and decision making for the client without the need to pull the pipe out of the hole.

The Baker Hughes Seismic While tool was deployed in highly deviated well in Mediterranian Sea to acquire VSP traces from a Vertical Incidence VSP configuration (Source above receiver). The data is both recorded in memory and a trace extract transmitted to surface using the mud pulse system for real time QC and processing
