Abstract

The constructed underground natural gas storage in the world can be divided into four types according to the storage style. This paper presents successful experience of foreign countries and by which to specify standards and conditions for utilizing shallow structures to construct underground natural gas storage in China. Two shallow structures discovered in Northern Jizhong area have been optimized and evaluated as the initial storage target in combination with the fact of supplying natural gas from Shanbei gas field to Beijing. The storage capacity of two shallow structures can meet the requirement of emergency and adjust the peak value seasonably. It can provide reference value to the decision of constructing underground natural gas storage in Beijing and Tianjin area, and it can be also applied to the similar project in other areas in China in the future.
