Abstract
This paper presents three main principles on the design of extended reach drilling well trajectory. The profile of build up section is optimized within nine types of shapes. The results show that sideway curves, curvature decreasing curve and circular arc are better than others. The influences of kick off point, maximum build up rate or hold angle on torque and drag and well length of three kinds of optimum curves are discussed. The results obtained are important guidelines for design of extended reach well trajectory.
