A group of simultaneous equations have been developed to describe the helical laminar flow of viscous non-Newtonian fluids in an annulus space. A theoretical analysis of the field of helical flow and axial flow of power-law fluid has been made. The axial velocity profiles of helical laminar flow and axial laminar flow are given for five aqueous solutions of polyacrylamide to verify the theoretical analysis, which shows good agreement with experimental data.

The helical flow pattern may serve as a better model to simulate the flow field in borehole. The methods used in this paper may be useful in the study of annular hydraulics.
