A sulfide scavenger CS 6-1 has been developed to protect the drilling tool from sulfide stress cracking, electrochemical corrosion and corrosion fatigue. The desulfurization efficiency and corrosion inhibition rate of the scavenger were measured for laboratory and field muds. Its desulfurization efficiency exceeded 98% and the corrosion inhibition rate was up to 70-90%. The addition of an appropriate amount of CS 6-1 doesn't affect the mud characteristics. Field tests have shown that the desulfurization efficiency of CS 6-1 in alkaline muds is better than that of sponge iron and Milgard scavengers.
