To measure current speed and direction in a vertical comumn of the ocean, an automatic profiling device has been outfitted with speed sensors to collect data while it automatically glides up and down a remote morring wire. To measure the accuracy of the system, a complete vehicle was first towed in a large fresh-water tank at various speeds and angles of attack. Two speed sensor types, rotor and electromagnetic, were evaluated and the results are presented in this report.
