Seismic trace inversion sections show variations in acoustic impedance that might represent lithologic changes important to reservoir description. However, trace inversion techniques must be used carefully to avoid pitfalls associated with the interpretation of seismic data. Only where high-quality seismic data is available, 1ithology-impedance relationships are distinct and seismic stratigraphy procedures are utilized can trace inversion contribute to reservoir studies.
