Abstract
As large digital oilfield programs evolve, the need to effectively develop and share adoptable solutions across a global enterprise is essential to value realization and solution readiness. The most innovative solutions are typically defined by multi-faceted teams. Once prepared, they must be clearly comprehended by adopting locations. The challenge: How to facilitate the interactions of a geographically-dispersed and functionally-diverse network of petrotechnical, information technology and operations end users, subject matter experts, management teams and central facilitators striving to build a common understanding of new ways of working?
This paper is based on Chevron's experience in leveraging a collaboration platform for the Upstream Workflow Transformation organization that facilitates the adoption of i-fieldSM solutions across upstream business units globally. While it is based on Microsoft® SharePoint® as the technology enabler, the emphasis in this paper will describe the types of global stakeholder interactions, team interactions and information-sharing requirements that can be facilitated through currently-available configurable technologies, and the planning considerations needed for delivering those to a diverse global workforce.
The paper will describe results and key insights through this implementation. It will illustrate how a shared virtual home can help facilitate stakeholders' understanding of scope and plans, enable the teamwork of global solutions teams, support design-related interactions, enhance knowledge-sharing across global groups and facilitate resource mobilization, strategies and visioning.
Global programs that involve contributors from multiple locations and disciplines will benefit by a virtual location where stakeholders can leverage a shared view to designs, plans, progress and teams can define new solutions collaboratively. Connecting these groups effectively is essential to delivering a comprehensive program built on contributions by all.
