Abstract
This paper includes both a review for course content for Environmental Practices Training, and a measurement criterion for evaluating a company's environmental practices. The format for the course applies to a short-course, industry-directed, classroom presentation. Outlines used by the author(s) in addressing these issues for a major oil company as well as video-based instruction will be included. As management must knowingly or unknowingly approve the content of these courses, it appears prudent that appropriate decision makers within the industry determine what constitutes environmental practices training in a sufficiently precise manner. Coupled with this determination is a need for verifiable, repeatable, and defensible measurement tool. The authors propose the Waste Index for meeting this need for a measurement tool. A defense for a measurement tool is made, the criterion described and is then illustrated by a case history example employing actual field data.
