ABSTRACT
The increase in requirements for greater environmental as well as personnel safety has motivated the oil and gas service industries to seek better methods for improvement in operational safety. This paper describes a safety inspection program that addresses these needs and assures the reliability of specific types of service equipment that can impact personnel and environmental safety in oil field servce operations.
To be effective, a program that focuses on operational safety of oilfield service equipment must provide not only verification that new equipment meets specific engineering design criteria but also that the equipment continues to maintain integrity throughout its service life. An overview of the conception, development, scope, implementation, and results of a new system that is successfully being used to fulfill these needs by one oilfield service company will be presented.
The program consists of three major elements: A one-time design verification (DV) certification, a periodic inspection and maintenance (IM) certification, and a computerized data retention and scheduling system that supports the first two concepts.
