The paper describes the process taken and workforce involvement to document and implement a Safety Management System within an established oil and gas production company. Included is a summary of the series of structured workshops which provided information on the existing safety systems being used and the formulation of a Safety Management System Guideline document based on those systems. The impacts on other safety related issues and practical observations are also discussed.
