A survey of UK and Norwegian operating and drilling companies identified the characteristics required of effective Offshore Installation Managers (OlMs) to deal with an emergency. Personality profile scores of 93 OlMs were correlated with ratings of their ability to manage a simulated offshore emergency. The findings are discussed in relation to key managerial characteristics and the applicability of personality profiling for selecting OlMs.
