A Loss Control program that addressed health, environment, and safety issues was applied to a portable project in an area of limited access, and rough jungle terrain.

An internationally recognized program that has been used successfully in other segments of the petroleum industry was customized and applied to this exploration project.

Program elements addressed include training, inspection and investigation activities and analysis, emergency preparedness, rules, personal protective equipment, health, project design, communication, promotion, and contractor controls. Guidelines and operating procedures of generally accepted industry associations, the International Association of Geophysical Contractors (IAGC) and the Exploration and Production (E&P) Forum, were applied within the framework of the program.

Discussion included an analysis of achievements of the program and opportunities for improvement. Feedback has resulted in program upgrading and is a critical part of the improvement process. Included is an attempt at a qualitative / quantitative analysis of benefit vs. cost.
