In view of data indicating that adequate psychosocial disaster management (PDM) ensures optimal behavior in the crisis situation, increases the number of survivals and reduces the aftermath of trauma, too few companies have established a satisfactory psychosocial disaster organisation.

Following a review of the literature on psychosocial effects of disasters and psychosocial disaster manage-ment, several suggestions are made for improving disaster preparedness and response in a given company. An intra- and interorganisational model is proposed.
