Abstract
The initial literature on Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials (NORM) on Low Specific Activity Scale (LSA) found in upstream petroleum operations focused on where it was found and the radiochemistry of scale formation. This paper builds upon initial efforts and presents detailed procedures that can be used to ensure a safe work environment. Topics of discussion include monitoring equipment, maintenance, decontamination, and trends.
