The operation of oilfield service districts worldwide presents unique opportunities to address environmental best management practices at the individual facility level whether oilfield service districts operate in the regulatory climates of North America and Europe or worldwide in countries where the focus for addressing environmental problems is in the arena of best environmental practices as opposed to comprehensive enforcement regulations. There appears to be common management issues and technical problems that, once identified, can be addressed in an environmentally responsible manner.

The results from the initiation of an environmental audit program company-wide for a variety of oilfield service operations including support districts for evaluation, testing, and production and seismic services as well as drilling and pumping support services form the basis for the recommendations presented in this paper.
