KIM Offshore Medical Services (OMS) provides medical back-up services for all operators in the offshore industry on the Dutch Continental Shelf.

This paper describes a retrospective study on all radio medical advice given by OMS, during a one-yearperiod. Points of interest are: frequency-distribution of illnesses and accidents; relations between illness- and accident-rates versus platformtype and function of employee; predictability of illnesses through medical examinations. Results are discussed: eye injuries are the most frequent accidents and dental problems one of the most frequent illnesses. Recommendations are given for preventive measurements in both cases.
