The need to repair, change parts or do other such work on in-sea equipment first arose in the middle of the 1980's. This was when 2 streamers were introduced1. Previously, the equipment was taken on board for repair. This was easy to do, and did not require much time to perform the work. After we started using 2 steamers, the work of repairing the equipment became more complicated, since there was a longer delay.

In the beginning, a small boat was used to reach the steamer in order to carry out the necessary work.

To begin with we used a MOB-Harding2. After a while, this type of boat proved to be unsuitable for this purpose since it was very slow. It's maximum speed was between 6-8 knots.
