This paper describes the creation and presentation of a new undergraduate course to educate petroleum engineers in HSE issues. It contributes both to the competencies specified by the employer, and to the educational mission. The course makes a significant contribution to the development of student's soft skills, such as communication, out-of-the box thinking, and ethical responsibilities. Significant commitment has been shown by the students in adopting the HSE behaviours that will be expected of them in the petroleum industry.
