In this litigation society, more and more professionals in the oil business may find themselves in court, either as a party to a lawsuit or as an expert witness empowered by the court to help clarify issues. Unfortunately, some of those who call themselves experts don't even come close. At least part of the problem comes from people with petroleum related degrees who also feel compelled to claim expertise in economics and probabilistic analysis. ’Tain't necessarily so. Thus in the courtroom we see hired guns who will come up with whatever principles their clients want to see espoused.
