Since 1978 the natural gas market has changed radically in response to NGPA pricing policies, changes in world oil prices, and changes in energy markers. These changes have affected new drilling as much as any other part of the industry. In 1981 drilling activity reached all-time highs. This paper examines the course of natural gas drilling since the NGPA, examines the effects of post-NGPA drilling on production, and provides estimates of the quantities of gas deregulated.
