The primary objectives of this research effort were to evaluate in-place gas, reserves, and production potential of coalbed gas using a vertical boreholes pattern. The DOE-U.S. Steel project in the Warrior Basin is selected as a specific site analysis because of the abundance of data, including 712 years of production history, available on the project.

Three models were developed for the implementation of the preceding objectives. The first model is based on the production decline curve method; the second model is based on the extension of the volumetric method; and the third model is based on the extension of the material balance method.

During the 89-month period, it has been reported that the cumulative gas production from the 23-well patter is 2.354 billion scf. That is, about 88.4 percent of the original gas in place has been produced in 89 months.
