As part of a DOE program, SRI International performed 1) laboratory experiments to determine borehole-loading-dependent fracture phenomenology and to measure material and fracture properties and 2) computational simulations of fracturing in laboratory experiments and field tests. The fracture data obtained from the laboratory experiments was successfully used to computationally predict the ordering of fracture and permeability enhancement in field tests.
