Formation damage has caused production declines in many wells in the Prudhoe Bay Field. Acid stimulations have become progressively less effective in restoring productivities, and a major campaign of hydraulic fracturing has been undertaken, with excellent results.

To prevent scale deposition in the propped fractures, techniques have been developed to enable scale inhibitor to be deployed during fracturing operations, despite the high pHs, and also to be replenished in existing fractures.
