The Balmoral Field is situated 140 miles northeast of Aberdeen in 470' of water. Early well tests indicated the possibility of sand production. To eliminate potential problems with the subsea hardware, it was decided to control sand production with internal gravel packs if target post-pack productivity levels could be met. Trial wells indicated that the target of a Skin less than +25 was achievable by innovatively adapting available technology. Operational results have borne this conclusion out.
