Well deformations in the Ekofisk Field are attributable to reservoir compaction and the related seabed subsidence. In 1989, unusual techniques/tools such as reduced strength cement, intentional leaks and casing elongation tools were utilized to combat the effects of compaction/subsidence and thus prolong well life.
