This paper reviews Statoil's experience with standardisation of its subsea field developments. Aspects of maintaining standard specifications in a rapidly developing technology are discussed, as well as the inherent disadvantages and advantages of this approach. Subsea standardisation applied at correct system design level and agreed with potential suppliers, will contribute to economical development of marginal fields.
