Norske Shell's testing experience over the last few years centres on 12 wells tested in 340 m (1120 ft) water depth in the Troll field, drilled during 1980 – 1984, and on 6 wells tested in 240 m (790 ft) water depth in the Draugen field, drilled during 1984 – 1986. This paper outlines developments in gravel packing techniques, equipment and procedures, the use of tubing conveyed perforating guns, the selection and application of tools included in the production test string to provide downhole shut-in and a circulation path, and finally, summarises the experience gained with downhole pressure gauges.
